Burn injury belongs to one of the most tragic and serious injuries of every age, but in children it usually is immediately life-threatening. Immesurable psychological and physical suffering, which go along with this injury, is often out of children’s power.
Such an injury is connected with long-term hospital care and many challenging and painful surgeries. Not even subsequent, time consuming rehabilitation is easy. Hardly anyone can imagine the agony these small patients and their parents have to go through. Such care typically never ends. The child has to come again into contact with his peers after returning home. The affected children and their parents are expected to fight hard every day with injuries consequences. Unfortunately it takes a very long time and suddenly there is nobody who can help.
However, in fact, there is.
In 2003 the civil association Bolíto in Prague was established. At the beginning there stood parents of handicapped children and doctors of the Burn clinic of FNKV, the only workplace in Bohemia, which cares for seriously burned children. Except for the doctors and nurses of this workplace, the association of joined parents of children burn victims, social and rehabilitation workers and also many other people, who aren’t affiliated with the children’s destiny.
The main goal of the orginization's work is caring for children after burn injury.
It’s not easy task to help children with return to the society and facilitate their demanding traumatogenic rehabilitation, into which it is necessary to connect up whole family. But specialists, who work with the association, want to show children and parents, that care didn’t finish with leaving the hospital, that they aren’t alone with their difficulties, and that it’s possible to overcome this hard lines of the injury with collective effort.
